EDUCATION & YOUTH SERVICES

"I can confidently say that Richard is a much respected counsellor and clinical supervisor amongst both his peers and clients, within the local mental health network."

Counselling Manager (Targeted Youth Service)

COUNSELLING APPROACH

I have eighteen years’ experience as a counsellor, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of teenagers, young people and adults. I am available to offer your school, college, university or youth centre counselling support to your students, and service users, either in-house or from my office in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

I also incorporate Mindfulness and CBT tools which have successfully helped adults to manage negative thoughts, compulsive self-criticism, low mood/depression and anxiety.

SUPPORTING STAFF MEMBERS WITH SUPERVISION OR COUNSELLING

I am also available to offer a reflective practice or supervision to teaching staff, to aid them to be more effective in their role, or counselling support to help resolve any personal issues that’s encroaching on their professional lives, to help them to manage work-related stress, to mitigate burn-out, or to help them to return to work following a period of convalescence/absenteeism.

  • How many sessions will I need?
My recommendation for a minimum quota of weekly sessions to address the reasons for counselling would be between 6 and 12. I have worked with clients who requested and benefitted from 12 plus sessions. I have seen clients who have requested to keep the run of sessions open-ended with regular space for review. The number of sessions one requires is up for discussion and I would ultimately be guided by the client.
  • How long do the sessions last for?
My sessions are 50 minutes long.
  • How much does a session cost?
My fee is £50 per session.
  • Where will the sessions take place?
I work from a consultation room based at my home address.
  • Are the sessions confidential?
My fundamental intent is to protect a client's right to privacy by ensuring that matters disclosed to me are not relayed to others without the informed consent of the client. There are four clear areas of exception or limits to confidentiality, legally and ethically: · When there is a clear risk to the client (if under 18 years of age), or if a child known to the client is at risk of abuse, neglect or harm. · In cases of actual or threatened violence (e.g. acts of terrorism), which includes harm to oneself or others; · A client requires urgent medical treatment or consultation with G.P. · When instructed by the Courts to reveal information (i.e. under court order).
